Halfway up (or down) the Deben is the village of Waldringfield. The settlement is four miles from the ship burial site at Sutton Hoo, and one of only a few where a shingle beach provides easy access to the water. (Ok there is a bit of mud! - bring wellies)
It hosts a very busy sailing club and equally busy pub together with the boatyard. Much of the activity is now centered around recreational boating. Waldringfield is a good centre for walking along the Deben and across to Newbourne Springs.

Public Transport: Trains to Woodbridge & Ipswich only. Bus from Martlesham.
Parking: The Maybush Pub car park has a good public parking payable from 8am to 6pm (April 2023). Payment is by cash or app (Ringo)
Disabled Access: There is some access to the small quay but the beach has steps and is flooded at high tide.
Facilities: There are toilets in the pub.

From the beach (check it’s not High tide) - Across the Deben (though the boats in season) the sun rises giving lovely atmospheric views.
Walking north from the beach across the salt marsh (there is limited access now to the south)
In amongst the boats on the beach.
The sun rises directly across the river (depending on the time of year) and provides great light the river particularly on misty mornings. When the sailing club is racing there opportunities to take images of the boats in action.
